I don’t disagree but Maiava was essentially held hostage by the staff and forced to take a picture with that dopey Brad Odom guy so Brad can tweet out that Maiava isn’t going anywhere. I think Brad had to chase him down on campus and take a picture with him somewhere. Anyone remember?
Absolute cringe.
The maiava situation was forced by the staff, not the media. Two totally different situations, imo. Mullen seems to be taking the opposite approach and probably encouraged AC to take a multi million dollar deal elsewhere. That takes a coach that is fully confident in his coaching and scouting abilities.
I am not sure if Mullen would encourage that, but he isn't going to hold it against him. At least that is what I think.
I get it, we have an emotional attachment to our team, but the hate for any coach or player thst leaves for greener pastures is getting tired. We are a stepping stone.
AC won freaking offensive player of the year and perhaps more POWs than any rebel that I can remember in recent memory. He made plays when they weren't there and covered up our terrible defense with his play. Without him we may be barely a .500 if that.
I am going to wish him well and have a little pride *not a lot, if he succeeds elsewhere. This is how I feel about Maiava.
And here is the thing. Even if we get invited to the B12, which is our realistic ceiling, our players and coaches will still be poached. It sucks, but is our reality. The difference is that the year to year success can be higher which is great.
Being the best g6 school isn't the worst thing in the world and that is what I am pulling for over the next several years. That will mean a lot of turnover. I just hope enough Rebel fans can accept that too. Other G6 schools in our conference do.
