The UNLV Football social media page posted photos that today was day 1 with getting the Arroyo system into place with the coaches and players for winter strength and conditioning.

I noticed that Armani Rogers was in the photo participating in conditioning. There was speculation that he may enter the transfer portal. Is this a sign that he is staying? I hope so.

Exciting to watch each step of the new era.

Good to see everyone out there. We will have to see what shakes out during spring ball. Right now the program needs buy in from everyone on the roster.

None of the new recruits/commits will be on campus until at least summer (to my knowledge) so the next 4 months is a time for current players to grab hold of spots and get the attention of the coaches.

Good to see Armani leading the way by example. Anything can happen, but at least for now it looks like he's dialed in and ready to compete.

I mentioned in another thread I thought Rogers was all in ..

The QB competition will be fierce at UNLV!

If Armani is staying with the team he will play. What position is another question... he’s too good of an athlete to keep off the field. He could be the best QB for the new staff... I don’t know, but what I DO KNOW is he needs to be on the field if he says a a Rebel.

It’s hard making it thru A MWC season with one QB.
You can ask Boise State if you don’t believe me..

Absolutely. UNLV hasn't finished a season with just one QB in about 15 years.

The option of Rogers transferring before the spring semester were greatly reduced when he played in the SJSU game in November.  He only handed the ball off to Charles Williams a few times, so I don't think he appears in the box score so maybe it won't show up in the official record as having played, because that ends the possibility of claiming an injury waiver season for two reasons: appearing in a fifth game and returning to play after the injury.

The injury waiver could have allowed him to a) not count the season toward his five year calendar and b) allow him to have two years of remaining eligibility.  Rogers should still apply for an injury waiver - all they can do is reject it.

Without the injury waiver the options for Rogers to transfer to a FBS school are:
1. Finish at UNLV and become a graduate transfer next summer.  In Arroyo's spring camp he would also get a feel for the outlook of next year's team.
2. Gamble on a transfer immediate eligibility waiver to be able to play next fall.  A lot of high profile players - especially QBs - have been granted these waivers the past few seasons.

With the way Oblad played he should be the starter but if coach Arroyo can actually improve Armanis throwing and accuracy then I'm all for him playing qb again he is a hell of an athlete for sure

If there is a "fierce" competition at QB next year and we are pinning our hopes on Armani to lead us to a bowl game with his passing acumen then we are screwed.  How many times does he need to miss targets for us to finally admit that his accuracy isn't good?  Don't answer me, its a rhetorical question.

Right now it is a "crowded" QB Room. Oblad, Rogers, Gilliam, Grayson, Mumphrey. All will be vying for reps and catching the eye of the new coaching staff. Now add Brumfield to the mix in the summer and fall camp and its gets even cloudier. Not many schools if any will tie up 6 Scholarships at QB. I am sure some things will be cleared up during and right after spring ball. Either through potential position moves or transfers if it comes to that.

No competition needed . Oblad named starter.

I think Arroyo will give Oblad first reps based on how season finished but will be in complete evaluation mode.

Armani's best chance at an NFL career is at wide receiver whether he's in Las Vegas or someplace else. He should try it out if he's not the starter at QB.

I’d also like to see UNLV be creative with Armani.. If he can’t win the starting QB job, implement a “wildcat” package where the ball gets in his hands.

Did anyone see Gio and Noah Bean at the workouts?
