Armani Rogers is still at the 4-game maximum level for being allowed to turn this season into a medical redshirt season. Rogers used a redshirt season his freshman year, but could waiver for a medical for the now common "sixth year"... as long as he doesn't play in that fifth game.

In the Wyoming game Rogers and Charles Williams were injured during the same quarter, and Williams' injury was considered the more serious of the two. Rogers was even cleared at halftime to play in the second half.

Before Boise State Sanchez said: “Kenyon Oblad will get the start. Armani will be there in relief if we need him.”

Before Vandy Sanchez altered that to be that Armani is not healthy and is only suiting up in case of emergency. So... the knee bruise got worse?

Before Fresno: "Armani Rogers continues to recover from a sprained knee"

Is anyone else suspicious whether Rogers will play in a fifth game this season?

It's becoming odd.

A misdiagnosis the day of game is possible. Injury was worse than originally thought.

But for it to continue to seemingly get worse doesn't seem to make sense.

Possible that he hasn't responded well to treatment.

Armani was 'the guy' coming into this season. I saw a lot if people post on forums and on social media that had Rogers not been hurt UNLV maybe goes bowling last year. Whether that is true or not is debatable and speculative.

If you are a coach in Sanchez' position with your back against the wall, you have to imagine you start the QB you feel like gives you the best chance to win.

Either the staff no longer or feels he does, his injury limits him, making Oblad the better option or as you suggest, something else is afoot. I don't know.

But Coach Sanchez isn't in year two or three where he can say, this season may already be lost, let's see what we have in Oblad. He is up against it and needs to win now.

San Diego State's defense has been very good. It is every bit as good and possibly better than Boise State. It presents a very difficuld challenge for any QB, much less a young QB still trying to figure it out like Oblad.

It will be interesting to see who gets the start this week and how long is the leash.

Interesting post. It never occurred to me that this could be a plan for Rogers to use the medical waiver for this year. Hmmm
Just not sure though if Sanchez would do that at this point with his job on the line.

I am more Curious to see if Gilliam plays honestly. He found a way to beat them last year ( i know it has little bearing on the game this weekend) but he has seen the 3-3-5 that Long runs and found success. He got help from the run game and defense.

Very curious to see what the offense can bring to the table this week against a defense that is flat out tough to find holes in.

It's hard to say, but an interesting scenario for sure.

Yeah it is going to be interesting I'm in no hurry to get Armani back unless since he has been out his accuracy improved I would be game for Max Starting he has experience and played well last year as the season went on

What if it's not the coaches who are interested in him getting a redshirt injury season?  If he graduates he could grad transfer and play next fall, having two seasons left.  If he is willing to switch positions I would expect there would be plenty of PAC12 interest.

He redshirted his first year don't you only get one redshirt year?

You can apply for a medical if you miss a certain number of games.

I don't know if he is interested in playing another position though. My guess is, he wants to play QB.

A good example of that would be former UNLV QB Kevin Thomson who was a redshirt freshman on Bobby Hauck's final UNLV team in the 2014 season and was a second year freshman during Sanchez' first season in 2015.

Due to medical hardship redshirt waivers Thomson is now the starting QB at Sacramento State and this season is just a junior.

Maybe the plan is to play our main QB's in only four games a piece so that they ALL retain that extra year of eligibility?!?!

Most people have to pay big bucks my insight.  Consider yourselves lucky that I'm sharing this gem for free.

You may be on to something...

It's a bold strategy. Very unorthodox.

If Sanchez is fired I am wandering if Armani goes too?

If he isn't retained, there will likely be some departures. You also probably lose some current commits.
