UNLV Roster Breakdown 2020/ TE & FB

In 2019 the TE position in UNLV’s offense had some big performances/plays. This will be an experienced group coming back as no one was lost to graduation. There will be some juggling early as the top 2 on the depth chart Giovanni Fauolo and Noah Bean will be serving 2 & 1 game suspensions to start the season. At the Fullback spot the Rebels return both Jamal Neal and Daniel Godfrey which will give Coach Arroyo and Coach Thomas a very experienced group as they shape the offense.

Tight End:

Key Losses: NONE

Key Returnees: Giovani Fauolo (34 Career Games 39 Rec 396 yards & 3 TD’s) Noah Bean (21 Career Games 23 Rec 338 yards 2 TD’s)

Other Returnees: Shelton Zeon (11 games 2 Rec 6 yards 1 TD) Adam Meyer, Tyler Yoder

Newcomers: Kaleo Ballungay & Alex Lines

FULBACK:

Key Losses: None

Key Returnees: Jamal Neal (21 career games 6 rushes 28 yards & 3 Rec 22 yards) Daniel Godfrey (35 career games primarily on special teams or lead blocking)

Newcomers: NONE

It will be a wait and see how the TE is utilized in Glenn Thomas’ offense this upcoming season. Depending on who wins the QB job the TE can be a nice outlet for the QB as they get comfortable. During the first couple weeks with Fauolo and Bean it will be a big opportunity for Shelton Zeon, Ballungay , Lines , Meyer and Yoder to see more action. With his size I could see Jamal Neal used for inline blocking as well. This group has shown big play potential and reliable hands. Zeon and Ballungay look to have that athleticism and size to potentially create mismatches as well. During fall camp a lot of battling will go on to see who will emerge in the Depth chart when the team steps on the field against Cal Aug 29th.

It seems that the new TE/ST coach (Jordan Paopao, who spent the previous 7 years as TE coach at Washington) is looking for more height at the TE position.  Fauolo and Bean are both 6'2.  UNLV has offers to 14 TEs in the '21 class - all 14 are between 6'4 and 6'6.  The two incoming freshmen (Ballungay and Lines) are 6'5 and 6'4, and the two TEs who decommitted right before signing day were also 6'5 and 6'4 (Jake Ray who went to ASU and Sutherland who went to Arkansas).

I'm not sure exactly what that means as far as how the TE will be used in the offense.  Are they going to bulk up and be used more as line blockers?  Is the height to create size mismatches with LBs and safeties on pass routes?

Zeon, Meyer, and Yoder are all '18 recruits and are all in the 6'3 to 6'5 range.  I was expecting a lot more from Zeon last season, so maybe the early games this season will be his opportunity.  Meyer and Yoder were both walk-ons last season.

I’m gonna say Noah Bean is probably the fastest TE on the team this year.
Last year I liked how UNLV hid him in the backfield and released him straight down the hash marks..
Pretty explosive in space.

Bean might be the fastest tight end I've ever seen

Do Faoulo and Bean's suspensions just move back a few games with the Cal and ASU game cancellations?

USC TE Daniel Imatorbhebhe has entered the transfer portal as a (sixth year) grad transfer, immediate eligible.  If he's looking for a place to play immediately UNLV could be an option.  Imatorbhebhe was teammates with UNLV WR Randal Grimes (and the two are about the same size) and incoming USC transfer OL Clayton Bradley, and he knows UNLV's DL coach Chad Kauha'aha'a.
